REVIEW // THE RAKES – THAT’S THE REASON
When it comes to The Rakes, most music fans are of the school of thought that Alan Donohoe and co have struggled to produce anything great since their debut ‘Capture / Release.’
Still, if there’s anything worth paying attention to at all on album numero trois, ‘Klang’, it’s this. A short, sharp slice of pop-punk, ‘That’s The Reason’ is catchy enough, but it takes their trademark wiry guitars and twitchy vocals and... well, does nothing with them. The formula is hackneyed, and by the sound of Donohoe’s wearied vocals even the band themselves seem to be tiring of it. Safe and dull.
