Glasgow’s Attic Lights have drawn numerous comparisons with countrymen Teenage Fanclub and, on the evidence of their somewhat tongue in cheek vocal harmonies, it is easy to see why. Far more commendable however, is the ability to meld the two opposite poles of grandiose, almost orchestral soundscapes, with the beery insouciance of fellow Glaswegians the Fratellis’ singalongs, whilst simultaneously sidestepping any accusations of being either pretentious or loutish.

The ensuing result is something truly wonderful, a song that Brian Wilson and co. would have made had they ditched the drugs and surfing in favour of a diet of Tennants Super and deep-fried Mars Bars.
