Birmingham’s Johnny Foreigner, the little scamps, are great at playing tricks. Just when ‘Salt, Peppa and Spinderella’s repetitive drumbeats, twee boy-girl vocals and sparse guitars have you switching off and muttering ‘bad Los Campesinos b-side’… BOOM! ‘Bring out the real fun/turn on the real drums’ calls Alexei, launching a cacophony of thrashing guitars, ferocious drums and sweet sweet vocal harmonies.
Asking ‘we’ve got a place for the night / what are you worried about?’ JoFo’s latest effort is an ode to youthful carelessness and simply having fun. If they can use stupid words then so can we. Splendiferous.
