Pull Tiger Tail – ‘Mary Jane’ (single review)
Hailing from London and featuring Marcus Ratcliff (vocals, guitar), Davo McConville (bass, keyboards) and Jack Hansom (drums), Pull Tiger Tail are the former flatmates of the UK darlings, the Klaxons.
The band grew up in Stratford-Upon-Avon, went to Goldsmiths College but postponed their final year to embark on the great Indie music odyssey. To date the band has played with Razorlight, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly., The Blood Arm, The Dykeenies, Mika, Kasabian and We Are Scientists to name just a few of the great Indie names who have crossed their path since the bands creation.
Not bad for a couple of college drop-outs – oops, I meant students on vaction who happen to play instruments and hang with the Indie elite in their spare time!
And it is not like they may need to go back - ‘Mary Jane’ their new single scheduled to be released in June definitely does not disappointment the auditory senses and should put them on the map as an act to watch out for.
Pull Tiger Tail uses the standard Indie formula to achieve a fairly energetic hit that has some actual staying power. This could be because they have managed to conjure up something actually worth remembering amongst the sea of Indie releases we have been subject to since the beginning of the year. But I did also keep thinking that this song would also make a great addition to any Spiderman movie because I could not get the webbed one or his love interest Mary-Jane out of my head when listening to this track! Not sure though if the guys want to count that as a bonus when listening to their music but the comparison was there just the same!
