Operahouse – ‘Diane’ (single review)
Is there an ‘Indie For Dummies’ guide book that I don’t know about? If there is, Operahouse have devoured every page and are now taking generic to new levels. London based? Check. Four piece? Check. Vocal harmonies? Check. Pop culture references? Check. Apparently they’ve been ‘spending time experimenting with their sound’, which I’m guessing means listening to a lot of Maccabees singles, as Johnny Lloyd’s yelp is equal parts Orlando Weeks and Joe Lean, whilst Alex Kaine’s guitar is dripping with the sound of Felix White.
Sadly, Operahouse lack the art-school creativity that propels their Brighton counterparts, leaving ‘Diane’ an indie-pop painting-by-numbers.
