O Titus! - 'Seagulls/Loopy Loo' (single review)
Don't get me wrong, 'quirky' is generally something I look for in music. It is my personal opinion that Los Campesinos! are one of the finest bands working in Britain today. The problem with this release from London 3-piece O Titus! is that it's all a little self conscious.
On both the tracks on this double A-side single the band uses variations in tempo and depth of sound with abandon. It seems clear to me that they are aiming for a reaction similar to 'hmmm that's a little odd' and it feels forced. It's a calculated approach, but that's not to say it's entirely unsuccessful. Loopy Loo in particular is a catchy enough track if ultimately a little shallow.
Both of these tracks will be released on the 'Steemeasy EP' available through iTunes on 2nd May.
