Cogwheel Dogs – ‘Cress’ (single / unsigned review)
I had no idea what to expect from Oxford based Cogwheel Dogs, their billed into that singer/songwriter bracket, which these days you hear every day, Cogwheel Dogs are so much more. Blending acoustic guitars and cellos with Rebecca’s untainted voice give you a sound that has a somewhat haunting quality too it.
On playing Cress for the first time you hear an almost experimental freeform sound combining clear, defined vocals with the randomness of sound that a cello can produce. Rebecca has a diverse voice that captivates you from the moment that you first hear it.
The two b-sides that accompany cress, Anticoagulant and Ghostwriter, are astoundingly good as well and could be singles in their own right. It’s not often that you get to discover a piece of music that really takes the words right out of your mouth but with Cogwheel Dogs, you just stop and think this is amazing. This is something that is truly impressive, something that you won’t look back from and something that is as unique as it is beautiful!
