HOT IQs – ‘Dangling Modifier’ EP (album review)
One of those magical hidden gems from the US indie scene, Denver’s Hot IQs are one of those great little bands that make a night lost on some Myspace swimming worth every wandering minute.
Perfectly executing the new breed of retro indie pop with the electrified edge. The Killers mashed with Hot Hot Heat, Weezer and a background hint of The Strokes. Bringing their own artistic edge to the formula, clever and subtle lyrical couplets and subdued flamboyance “no help from you madam voulez vous”. Lyrically it’s meticulously crafted as much as musically, and the Hot IQs are equally enjoyable and intelligent on both levels.
This is art pop with mass appeal, made for tiny, trendy indie clubs and national radio alike, and perfect for both. Give them some of your time, go on. You’ll enjoy it, they deserve it and all the cool kids are doing it!
